Huntsville Weekend

I had a wonderful time in Huntsville this weekend, visiting my brother and his fiance and watching an old friend get married. The first day, the four of us spent some one-on-one time with each other while having the best sangria ever from Mason jars and eating yummy Mexican at Rosies Cantina. I snuggled up all night with their cat, Millie, who I saved when she was a day old, and then I was licked repeatedly by their ever pleading dog, Sydney.

The next day I took the first half of Darcie and Brent's engagement pictures (soon to come) and went to my friend's wedding. I cannot believe my friends are starting to tie the knot.

It was a good weekend.

Missing Aegina

The Island of Aegina can be found not far off the coast of Greece, about a 2-hour boat ride from Athens. It has cobblestone roads and crystal-clear water. Church bells double as alarm clocks at the small, quaint hotel. The inside of the old building is open to the sky, a roof having never touched the surrounding walls. It is filled with flowers of all kinds and there are the tiniest of twinkle lights that weave up the iron staircase. The bedrooms are the crisp, traditional blue and white of the Greeks, with soft linen that feels good on a sunburn. It's the kind of place you fall asleep with the windows open, the soft chatter of the night owls mixing with the waves. The kind of place where you make friends with the non-English speaking owners, communicating only with awkward, genuine smiles. It's the kind of place you could never leave.

I miss Aegina.

A wedding in the mountains

This time last summer my cousin Marie was married in the breathtaking mountains of Franklin, NC. Some of our family members live in a self-built, mountain-top home that is enclosed with only the most beautiful of nature. Words cannot describe it's beauty.
I couldn't think of a more perfect place to have a wedding, or a more prefect place to be.

Though I was not the hired photographer at the wedding, I couldn't resist taking photos of the joy that day.

lovely comrades

My friends and I practically live in Downtown Franklin during the summer, especially at night. The crowds are small and the streets are lit up, creating the perfect atmosphere to stroll without the hot sun beating down on us. We listen to Irish music at McCreary's Pub while sipping on some cool beer and relax in the center of the square. Sometimes we are even lucky enough to receive a homemade, gluten-free chocolate strawberry cake (which doesn't happen often- thanks Ana!) after dressing up to see Breakfast at Tiffany's.

I enjoy my friends' company.

Breakfast at Tiffany's

It's fun to dress up like Audrey Hepburn as Holly Golightly when you go to a late afternoon showing of Breakfast at Tiffany's at the new theatre. It's a mixture between Halloween and girly fun, even if you and a friend are the only ones who did it.

my love for film

There is something about B&W film that gets to me. The grain, the surprise outcome, the developing process-- it's my favorite to shoot with. These photos are a compilation from late 2010 up to my recent visit to Charleston this summer. I just received the images yesterday after sending them off to be processed. I was giddy to see what they looked like.

One of my favorite things to do in college was spend hours upon hours in the lab, developing my negatives and creating my prints. If there is one thing I could choose to be part of my future home it would be a darkroom. I believe film is probably one of the most beautiful art forms that is sadly decreasing in popularity due to cost and the abilities that digital now holds. I, however, will always love film.

These particular shots were taken with a simple Nikon point and shoot. Nothing was adjusted: zoom, shutter speed, aperture--nothing. Just a fun, quick click, and then months later, surprise.
